is the oldest technique of healing through touch.

According to Ayurvedic medicine, massage is essential to maintain good health, awareness and long life. The massage has a beneficial effect on all parts of the body. It helps with digestion and absorption, stimulates the blood circulation and fluid exchange in tissues, removes inflammation, swelling and obstructions. Massage affects immune system and helps maintain ideal health. If performed regularly – it can regulate physical, mental and spiritual body functions. Massage is a therapy that allows you to unlock the Nadi energy channels for the proper flow of vital energy.

It is difficult to determine the exact date of the beginning of the massage because for many years it was passed verbally from teacher to student. The first book about massage was written by Agasthya – the father of Ayurvedic massage. Agasthya Samhita is a collection of massage techniques. Succeeding techniques have been developed by scholar Charaka, author of the Charaka Samhita book. Ayurvedic massages are the most diverse of all massages. To name a few:

1. Marma Massage
2. Yogic Massage
3. Udvarthanam Massage
4. Abhayanga Massage – therapeutic Ayurvedic full body massage
5. Shirodhara Massage
6. Kati Vasti Massage
7. Pinda Sweda Massage

1. Marma Massage

Therapy which uses 107 Marma points located in the body. According to Ayurveda, Marma points are special places on the body. When they are open, the body absorbs energy from the environment, holds it in those points, and then returns to nature. When they are open, the energy circulates freely and the body and mind remain healthy. Pain that occurs when the points are pressed means that the energy is not circulating well and is blocked somewhere. Therapy aims to unlock those points by restoring the flow of energy in the body. Gentle massage of these points brings relaxation and strengthens the whole body. More intense marma massage opens and balances the Marma points, releases emotional deposits in the body and unlocks emotions.

2. Yogic Massage

The word Yoga is derived from the word “Yuj” – unity of the body, mind and spirit.

Both, physical exercises and massage aim to combine three main meridians : Sushumna, Ida and Pingala. When they are combined we begin to feel the benefits of yoga. During a massage or yoga exercises, it is important to feel at ease and comfortable in the position, and try to remain in it as long as possible. During the massage we stimulate the nerves to release the excess energy from the spine. The massage helps to unblock the flow of energy, manifested in stiffness. When the body is properly stretched the energy will flow freely. Yogic massage prepares the body well for yoga.
